I agree to not agree
At what point did I (we) agree? When did we determine it was
ok for this currency to say if someone goes hungry or not, that someone is sad
or dissatisfied with life? Who said and agreed we eat this food the way it is?
That farmers and growers have to do it this one-way, and if not they be sued or
everything from generations of hand me down equipment and knowledge can be
stripped from them? When did my conscious soul agree with constant labor and
work despite my happiness. That being away from creating, teaching, and
enjoying my family and friends comes 2nd to someone else’s agenda,
I see these high-rise buildings blocking the mountains and
the rising sun from my view. These giant structures teaming with human life,
empty at the same time. I walk in, approached by no one. Looked at by no one.
Talked to by no one. I go up it is the same. Face away from each other in the elevator;
pull out your phones in hopes that they will appear busy and popular not to be
interrupted by the likes of me. Gates open and I hear voices, phones ringing
papers shuffling I see one person. Hundreds of people surround me but they
don’t exist, I don’t exist. Blocked by there plastic linen covered walls they
hide emotions from one another- no human contact. A structure to be revered
filled with empty washed out, over weight, fat faced lost souls waiting for the
end of the day to go home to be bothered by the wife they don’t love, the
disrespectful children they raised and sit lifeless in front of the television.
A sea of dead faces consumes me in this modern life.
Our pride that we have created in this illusion of progress
is what stops us. Stops us from being us. Stops us from being human again.
Stops us from sharing the stories of our lives with our neighbors, creating new
tribes amongst us. I have been raised
with the luxury of hate, I hate myself I hate the strangers that pass feet away
from me but yet bump directly into my shoulder knocking me back into this cold
reality of emptiness. We congregate in crowded areas to be alone. We do it to
meet with those we already know and fear the chance of impact from other humans.
That someone I don’t know can make me smile. That a stranger can be the person
I’ve been searching for. Every one is unsafe and dangerous we tell ourselves. A
true shame to share this world completely alone and untouched by our fellow
inhabitants. We meet each other with immediate response to ones content. What
they wear or don’t wear, they drive, eat, smoke, read, who we date, who we
listen to, who we envy instead of who we are.
We are the same thing yesterday as we will be tomorrow; the
same thing we were 10,000 years ago. Why are we treating ourselves any
different?
